BBC Young Writers’ Award 2025
Calling all budding authors! The BBC Young Writers’ Award, in partnership with Cambridge University, is back for its 11th year. Open to UK students aged 14 – 18, the competition invites pupils to submit an original short story of up to 1,000 words – on any theme, in any genre. Entries are free, and the deadline is 9 am GMT on Monday 24 March 2025.
Stories are judged by an exciting panel including Lauren Layfield, Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho, Jessica Moor, Lottie Mills, and Matt Goodfellow.
Thousands have entered over the years, with winners achieving further writing success—including publication openings, book deals, and university support. There’s no set theme – just imagination, originality, and your unique voice.
