This year Refugee Week is June 16th – 22nd, with Refugee Day falling on the Friday of June 20th.
Taking place every year since beginning in 1998, this annual arts and culture festival is an amalgamation of events large and small happening around the globe to celebrate ‘contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary‘.
School communities are welcoming places, whether they include refugee families or not, and many may be hosting school or classroom events that encourage refugee voices to be shared and amplified. We have shared below some fiction and non-fiction titles that portray refugee experience and a couple of titles suitable for staff.
We know how books offer that extraordinary quality of being a mirror or a window to whichever reader picks it up.
