Join 'Poetry Together' – A Heartwarming Schools Event

Bring the magic of poetry to life with Poetry Together, a free nationwide initiative uniting schools and care homes in an intergenerational celebration of spoken verse. Now in its seventh year, this autumn-season project, founded by Gyles Brandreth and Dukes Education, invites pupils of all ages to learn a poem by heart alongside local elderly community members – and then recite it together over tea and cake.

Last year saw over 1,000 schools and care homes participate across the UK – from Aberdeen to Portsmouth – and even in overseas locations like Greece, Dubai, and the USA. Students gain confidence, enhanced language and memory skills, and a deeper understanding of poetry, while older participants enjoy cognitive and emotional benefits.

To take part, schools simply:

  1. Register (it’s free)
  2. Team up with a care home
  3. Choose a poem to learn
  4. Host a poetry tea party during the autumn season (you pick the date)
  5. Share photos/videos and receive a commemorative certificate

Ideal for class projects, drama clubs, English lessons or PSHE, Poetry Together fosters empathy, community spirit, and a lifelong love of language. Encourage your pupils to experience the joy of shared recitation, and help generations connect through verse!
