What is Read Write Inc.?

Read Write Inc. is a transformational programme that provides a systematic and consistent approach to your teaching of reading and writing. With resources for Nursery through to Year 9 (P1-S2), Read Write Inc. creates fluent readers, confident speakers and willing writers. The resources combine to form a complete literacy programme that covers phonics, spelling, comprehension and intervention, using the same teaching strategies throughout.

How does Read Write Inc. support children with SEND?

Read Write Inc. is designed to be inclusive for all children – whatever their need.

• Resources are simple and limit distraction.

• Children learn the routines and behaviours necessary for each activity, and practise these until they use them automatically. This allows them to focus on learning to read and write.

• Thoughtfully chosen fonts, clean backgrounds, and ample space around text contribute to accessibility for all learners.

• Colour tinted backgrounds are used to help reduce visual stress, making the text easier to read.

• Each page is run via a colour-blindness programme.

• Throughout the entire programme, children encounter artwork that mirrors their own experiences.

Read Write Inc. Phonics

If you have Read Write Inc. Phonics then you already have the best programme to teach children with SEND to read. They don’t need to be taught a different programme, or even a slower version of the main programme, it is inclusive for all children.

What is Read Write Inc. Fresh Start?

Read Write Inc. Fresh Start rescues pupils aged 9 and above who are reading below age-related expectations. A catch-up programme with proven results, it accelerates reading progress in just 30 minutes a day. The programme includes all the support and decodable reading materials you need to engage and motivate older struggling readers including:

Modules containing step-by-step activities to build skills and confidence.

Anthologies for further reading practice.

• A Teacher Handbook with lesson plans and full advice and guidance on running Fresh Start in your school.

• Age-appropriate Readers to practise and embed skills.

How does Read Write Inc. Fresh Start rescue struggling readers?

  • Quick diagnostic assessment – pupils start at their highest point on the programme for speedy progress, whether this is for
accurate decoding, reading fluency or both.

  • Daily phonics lessons at each child’s ‘challenge point’ allow pupils to progress quickly because they learn and review
letter-sounds and words at their level.

  • Motivating age-appropriate Modules help older readers to apply their new phonic knowledge to engaging matched decodable stories and non-fiction texts.

  • Flexible organisation – the programme can be taught flexibly depending on the number of pupils who need it and the number of staff available.
