The Laugh Out Loud Book Awards, affectionately known as the Lollies, celebrate the most humorous children’s books in the UK and Ireland. Established in 2016 by Scholastic UK, the awards aim to highlight and promote the joy of reading through laughter. What sets the Lollies apart is that the winners are chosen by children themselves, making it a unique and engaging celebration of children’s literature.

Award Categories:

The Lollies encompass several categories to ensure a broad representation of humorous literature:

• Picture Books: For young readers, these books combine engaging stories with captivating illustrations.

• Books for 6–8-Year-Olds: Early chapter books that offer more complex narratives while maintaining a humorous tone.

• Books for 9–12-Year-Olds: Middle-grade novels that blend adventure and comedy to keep readers entertained.

• Books for Teens: Humorous stories tailored for a teenage audience, addressing themes relevant to young adults.

• Poetry Books: Collections of poems that use wit and humor to engage readers.

• Non-Fiction Books: Informative yet entertaining books that make learning fun.

• Illustrator of the Year: An award recognizing the illustrator whose work has brought the most joy and laughter to readers.

The 2025 shortlists were announced in Spring 2025. Voting will take place during the Summer Term. The winners will be announced in the Autumn Term 2025.
