The Sixth Form Library Essay Prize
Sixth Form students (Years 12 and 13) are eligible to enter the annual Sixth Form Library Essay Prize, a compelling way to prepare for university-level writing. Inspired by the famously rigorous All Souls College, Oxford, this prize challenges students to craft an original essay in English on a one‑word prompt – such as choice, intelligence, power, placebo or generation. Your title must integrate the prompt creatively and offer insightful connections to your curriculum.
Essays may cover any subject area – English, History, Philosophy, Economics, Politics, Science, Arts, Maths, Law – but must be 1,500 – 2,000 words, double‑spaced in Times New Roman 12pt, and include Harvard‑style references. Original, unpublished submissions only; plagiarism is strictly prohibited.
The prize is free to enter, with entries due by 14 April 2025. Judging occurs in June, with first, second and third placed entries winning book vouchers (£50/£30/£20) plus Highly and Commended awards in each category. Additionally, the top 20 entries from UK state schools will receive a scholarship including an academic consultation and tutorial focused on UCAS preparation.
This is a valuable chance to sharpen analytical skills, demonstrate academic ambition, and bolster personal statements. For further information, please visit:
