The UKLA Book Awards
The UKLA Book Awards, established by the United Kingdom Literacy Association (UKLA), are the only national children’s book awards judged entirely by teachers. They aim to celebrate exceptional children’s books that have a significant impact both in the classroom and on individual readers. The awards encompass four categories:
- Fiction and Poetry for 3-6+ year-olds
- Fiction and Poetry for 7-10 year-olds
- Fiction and Poetry for 11-14+ year-olds
- Information Books for 3-14+ year-olds
Each category features a shortlist of six titles, selected by panels of teacher judges. These judges read and discuss recently published, high-quality children’s books that recognize a broad range of perspectives, experiences, and voices. The shortlists are typically announced in March, with the winners revealed at the UKLA International Conference in July.
